ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Grounded in the language of nature, unmistakably contemporary and yet somehow timeless, the abstract work of Dale Nally draws the viewer into the infinity of introspection.  Boundless in their interpretation, his powerful images convey a deeper meaning, that while unique to each viewer, often seem somehow to share a profound similarity.  Nally combines colors, textures, and finishes in a way that effortlessly infuses the abstract with the organic.  Sought after and featured in both public and private collections and exhibitions around the world, the contemporary abstract work of Dale Nally is unique in its ability to transcend the limits of categorization, definition, and time.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

“After years of soul searching (and job searching), I have finally arrived at the conclusion that painting is the only venue that provides me with the opportunity for self-expression, and to describe to others the world as I see it.  Having grown up on a small farm in rural Kentucky, I was born into a world very firmly rooted in nature.  And although I have resided in large cities for many years now, my natural tendency is to still view my surroundings in the terms of the world of my childhood.  The language of nature: soil, air, water, sunlight, moss, fire, and decay are the tools I use to build my paintings.

The abstract images of my paintings are meant to achieve a sense of quiet.  Acting primarily on intuition, and the spontaneous use of various types of paints, varnishes, wax, tar, and marble dust, I am constantly searching to achieve a connection between the physical world, and the deeper meaning that lies beneath.  In each painting I strive to discover a sense of quiet, where one can hopefully pause for a moment to reflect and become lost within.

The process of painting in the studio is a very solitary, almost selfish act.  I believe the act of making art is simply the expression of another, and perhaps less familiar language that resides deep within.  The intangible thoughts and inspirations that exist within our daily lives and deep inside our minds.  The process of making art, while satisfying, is incomplete until it comes before an audience.  My hope is that my work will allow the viewer the opportunity to connect with their own thoughts, a quiet time to reflect, and a glimpse of the beauty I see in the world around me.”  - A, Dale Nally
